Dear Year 6 Pupils,

Next week you will sit your SATs tests for maths, reading, spelling, grammar and punctuation.  We know how hard you have worked, but there is something very important you must know:

The SATs test does not assess all of what makes each of you special and unique.  The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you the way that we do and certainly not in the way your families do.

They do not know if you are good at sport or that you love to sing or draw.  They have not seen your natural talent for public speaking or playing a musical instrument.  They do not know that your friends can count on you to be there for them; that your laughter can brighten the darkest day.  They do not know how you help at home or love reading books.  They do not know that you are kind, trustworthy and thoughtful and that every day you try to be your very best.  They do not know that each and every one of you demonstrate our Welton Values each day at school.

The results you will get from these SATs tests will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything.  There are many ways of being smart.  You are all smart (and have a smart teacher!).  So while you are preparing for the test and in the midst of it all, remember that there is no way to ‘test’ all of the amazing and awesome things that make you, YOU!

Your homework this week is to do as many of these activities as possible:

Read some of your favourite book

Go on a bike ride/scooter ride

Watch your favourite TV programme

Eat an ice-cream

Go for a swim or walk

Play in your garden

Help cook dinner

Do you something you have never done before!

Rest, eat well, sleep and believe.

From Miss Smart

Term 5 and 6 information

As we are now in our final two terms of Year 6, I would like to take this opportunity to update you on a few things.  Terms 5 and 6 are always incredibly busy for Year 6 but full of exciting opportunities too.

SATS

First, I would like to say how impressed I have been with the children’s commitment to their learning.  They are a delightful class to teach and I have been very pleased with their attitude towards homework and SATs revision.  I know many parents find it useful seeing the types of questions the children will be expected to complete.  More practise papers can be found on: bit.ly/2H4yhsmAs you know, I am also holding optional revision classes on Fridays at 8:15am and 12pm.You may find this video about SATS, for parents, useful too: bit.ly/2H43BeZ

Below is the timetable for SATs Week:

Monday 14th May Tuesday 15th May Wednesday 16th May Thursday 17th May
SPAG

(spelling, punctuation, grammar)

Reading Maths 1 (Arithmetic)

Maths 2 (Reasoning)

Maths 3 (Reasoning)

All tests are in the morning.  Our message to the children is that the SATs is a time to show off the great things they can do and that there is nothing to be worried about.

Every morning (14th – 17th May) at 8:15am we shall run an optional ‘Wake and Shake breakfast club’.  This helps the morning start in a positive way, building team spirit and ensuring the children are energised and fully ready to tackle those questions!  We are offering the breakfast to all children; however a donation of 50p a day (or £2 for the week), in cash would be greatly appreciated to cover food costs.  Please pay when forms are sent home in May.

Year 6 visit to The Life Skills Centre, Bristol

Full details for this trip will be given out nearer to the time, however we shall be going to The Life Skills Centre on Thursday 14th June.

Year 6 Production

Full details regarding the production will be sent out after SATS but I thought you might like to have the performance dates in your diary: Wednesday 11th July 1:30pm and Thursday 12th July at 6:30pm.

Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly

This will take place on the last day of term, Friday 20th July at 2pm and will last for 45 minutes.   They will have the opportunity to have their t-shirt signed by friends in the morning but will require a clean t-shirt for their Leavers’ Assembly.

Thank you again for your continued support during these busy terms.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.
