Term 5 and 6 information

As we are now in our final two terms of Year 6, I would like to take this opportunity to update you on a few things.  Terms 5 and 6 are always incredibly busy for Year 6 but full of exciting opportunities too.

SATS

First, I would like to say how impressed I have been with the children’s commitment to their learning.  They are a delightful class to teach and I have been very pleased with their attitude towards homework and SATs revision.  I know many parents find it useful seeing the types of questions the children will be expected to complete.  More practise papers can be found on: bit.ly/2H4yhsmAs you know, I am also holding optional revision classes on Fridays at 8:15am and 12pm.You may find this video about SATS, for parents, useful too: bit.ly/2H43BeZ

Below is the timetable for SATs Week:

Monday 14th May Tuesday 15th May Wednesday 16th May Thursday 17th May
SPAG

(spelling, punctuation, grammar)

Reading Maths 1 (Arithmetic)

Maths 2 (Reasoning)

Maths 3 (Reasoning)

All tests are in the morning.  Our message to the children is that the SATs is a time to show off the great things they can do and that there is nothing to be worried about.

Every morning (14th – 17th May) at 8:15am we shall run an optional ‘Wake and Shake breakfast club’.  This helps the morning start in a positive way, building team spirit and ensuring the children are energised and fully ready to tackle those questions!  We are offering the breakfast to all children; however a donation of 50p a day (or £2 for the week), in cash would be greatly appreciated to cover food costs.  Please pay when forms are sent home in May.

Year 6 visit to The Life Skills Centre, Bristol

Full details for this trip will be given out nearer to the time, however we shall be going to The Life Skills Centre on Thursday 14th June.

Year 6 Production

Full details regarding the production will be sent out after SATS but I thought you might like to have the performance dates in your diary: Wednesday 11th July 1:30pm and Thursday 12th July at 6:30pm.

Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly

This will take place on the last day of term, Friday 20th July at 2pm and will last for 45 minutes.   They will have the opportunity to have their t-shirt signed by friends in the morning but will require a clean t-shirt for their Leavers’ Assembly.

Thank you again for your continued support during these busy terms.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.

SATS Revision

As the Year 6 SATs are drawing closer we are offering additional support where we believe it could help children to become more secure in their understanding.  Experience tells us that this can boost children’s confidence as they approach their SATs and can make a difference to their scores.

Currently some children attend booster classes in the afternoons.  I also have a ‘drop-in’ homework club every Wednesday lunchtime that anyone in Year 6 can attend.

Many of the children have requested additional revision sessions to look at areas in which they feel less confident.  Therefore, I will be holding two weekly revision sessions during term 5 that any Year 6 child can attend.  Pupils do not have to sign up or attend every week but we do ask that they are at the session from the start and do not arrive late.  All sessions will be in the year 6 classroom.

Monday 14th May – Thursday 17th May: YEAR 6 SATS WEEK

For the Easter holiday homework I have given the children an arithmetic, SPAG and reading SATs practice.  I have given this to them today (5 days early) and it is not due in until Thursday 12th April.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support in the run up to SATs.  If you were unable to attend the SATs parent session, I have put all information on our class blog.  If you have any queries about these sessions or SATs, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Wishing you all a lovely Easter break.
